“Durga” – the powerful goddess of Indian mythology, guardian of strength and conqueror of chaos – appears in this work in a poetic-abstract interpretation. The figure appears protective and at the same time boldly forward-looking, surrounded by vibrant sweeps of color and powerful lines.
Warm reds, oranges, and yellows symbolize energy, fire, and vitality, while playful, almost dance-like lines keep the image in motion. The figure holds a form… resembling a blossom or a radiant symbol of creation—an emblem of Durga's dual nature: strength and nourishment, struggle and nurture, transformation and renewal.
Fine speckles, watercolor overlays, and dynamic contrasts lend the work a vibrant intensity. “Durga” is a visual statement of strength – full of feminine power, mysticism, and creative freedom.
Nora Kalinda, born in 1976 in Vienna, has her studio in Lackenbach, Mittelburgenland, Austria.
Nora gives artistic expression to her inner worlds on different media, such as paper, canvas, various printing techniques and also digitally. Her paintings, which depict her inner microcosm, are full of various mythical creatures, funny animals and mythical figures. Her works are humorous and colourful, full of lightness, dynamism and joie de vivre. Nora loves it when her pictures inspire people to pareidolia – that is, they stimulate the imagination and help to discover faces in things, giving the viewer a feeling of childlike joy of discovery.
