At first glance, Disco Lunacy dazzles with its radiant curves, candy-coloured geometries, and surrealist precision. Its pastel rainbows and floating spheres might evoke a playful utopia, but beneath the surface lies a blueprint of survival. This work is not merely decorative; it is a psychic map.
Disco Lunacy emerges from a deeply personal context. During a traumatic ‘Sentence’ at what I refer to as a “Dystopian Dickensian School,” The only safe… refuge, was the art room, a sanctuary where the tyranny of institutional cruelty gave way to shape, colour, and imaginative freedom.
This painting, then, is less a dreamscape than an act of escape. It is what the mind builds when the body is trapped.
In this visual fugue, the logic of mathematics blends with the chaos of emotion. The structure is tight, obsessively so, yet brimming with irrational joy. The tension between control and collapse echoes the experience of trauma itself: the compulsion to organise the unpredictable.
