About this artwork
The painting was created in the spring of 2022, when Ukraine experienced the terrible events of the Russian full-scale invasion—every day brought news about victims and awful crimes of the occupants. The still life with a branch of a blooming apple tree in the background of the folklore pattern expresses the sorrow about the tragedy in the artist's Motherland.
Olya Tkachenko, a Ukrainian-born painter, textile, and conceptual artist, draws on her deep classical training and vibrant cultural heritage to create her art. She melds traditional media and folklore with bold colors, playful patterns, and elegant compositions, constantly reimagining age-old Ukrainian themes in contemporary forms. Her works radiate a celebration of life and resilience—offering hope, wonder, and the transformative power of beauty even amidst darkness.
