About this artwork
Flies, like all insects belonging to the order Diptera, have a single pair of membranous wings, the second being transformed into pendulums to allow balancing in flight. They are equipped with short antennae made up of 3 articles, the last of which has a long tang, the arista. Their mouthparts are sucking-licking type, but some species have a stinging rostrum. They are distinguished from other Brachycera, like horseflies, by the existence of a puparium,… a hard casing in the shape of a barrel which imprisons the nymph, or pupa. After metamorphosis, also called pupation here, the adult emerges from the puparium through a circular slit, which is characteristic of Cyclorhaphs or "true" flies. It is a particularly large group, which presents a great diversity of forms and customs. (Source Encyclopedia Universalis)
« Painting and creation, in general, are the best ways to deliver what words cannot say. »
Philippe Abril is an award-winning French painter who has exhibited in both solo and group events nationally. Within his works, he conveys his amazement of having ‘landed on this fabulous planet’. Abril’s naive narrative paintings are mostly made using acrylics, as its fast drying qualities give him the freedom to mix other mediums more easily.
