About this artwork
Birth was a painting that developed over many years. The work began as a study of a figure emerging from a cool, atmospheric space, but over time the idea shifted toward something more symbolic.
Returning to the canvas later, I felt the need to emphasize the vertical movement of light above the figure — almost like a stream or opening in the sky. This element transformed the meaning of the painting. The figure no longer appeared isolated, but connected… to a larger force or moment of transformation.
In its final state, the painting became about emergence — the quiet, almost sacred instant when a human presence rises from silence and takes its first breath.

I was born on November 22, 1967, in the mining town of Anzhero-Sudzhensk in the Kemerovo Region. From 1980 to 1984, I studied at the Children's Art School No. 1 in Shakhty, Rostov Oblast. At the same time, I was involved in several extracurricular activities at high school, including shipbuilding, handicrafts, mining engineering, and space exploration. In 1988, I enrolled in the M.B. Grekov Russian Art School, where I was exposed to the workshops of the Union of Artists of Russia. I learned woodcarving and metal engraving long before the official curriculum. For six years, I taught at a school, worked as an interior designer, and engaged in printing and photography. I also worked as a photographer and portraitist on the beaches of the Azov and Black Seas. From 1998 to 2002, I painted seascapes for exhibitions and galleries in Rostov, Moscow, and other cities.
