About this artwork
The image is the epitome of a totality shot. Zoomed out, wide-angle. Anyone looking for the Earth will not find it. Not only because of its size, but because it has been superimposed. Initially still recognizable, unlike in satellite images: movement, energy, the flickering of individual lives in time-lapse. At some point, it slips away, becomes a rotating, colored marble, and dissolves into a larger cloud of energy points.
It makes little sense… to us, and yet therein lies beauty. In mere existence. It offers solace. Everyday life, love, every step contributes to something greater, without needing explanation. Perhaps it is precisely this lack of meaning that soothes. Everything is simply there. A force that paints. A harmonious whole. The moment is enough.
Simon Thon studied at the Ruhr Academy of Fine Arts and subsequently worked in advertising before becoming a freelance photographer. His photographic work also maintains a clear artistic expression. Nevertheless, painting remains his true focus. In his studio, his work evolved from early figurative, realistic motifs to increasingly freer abstraction. He rejects the constraints of a single style and understands art as an open process. His painting thus becomes an intimate form of communication and, at the same time, an instrument for understanding the world and its current tensions. Social contradictions, frictions, and shifts act as underlying forces in his paintings, lending them both emotional and intellectual urgency.
