About this artwork
“Celebrating Dance” is part of my Golden Walls Series, a tribute to the unbreakable spirit of women and the freedom found in movement. I created this piece to honor the joy that rises even within boundaries—the power of the feminine soul that refuses to be contained. The dancer, framed yet unrestrained, lifts her tambourine as if summoning joy itself, her rhythm echoing through walls meant to silence her.
The golden hues, fiery reds, and cool turquoise… tones mirror the contrasts within us—strength and softness, structure and flow. The industrial window represents the frameworks we inherit, while her dance embodies the choice to live beyond them.
For me, Celebrating Dance is a declaration of self-liberation, a visual song of resilience. It is about reclaiming space through joy, transforming confinement into rhythm, and remembering that even within walls, the spirit always finds a way to celebrate its own light.
Sofi Gaya, trained as a visual artist after a career in medicine, creates vibrant works primarily in oil, experimenting with inks, gold leaf, spray paint, markers, and acrylics. Her technique centers around expressive, dance-filled female figures, unfolding in series that mix interaction with nature and autobiography, infused with Sufi mysticism. Through bold color and fluid motion, she vividly conveys joy, hope, feminine empowerment, and a profound ease—inviting viewers into a world bursting with love, freedom, and radiant self-expression.
