About this artwork
"Chiemsee Sky" is a relief-like collage painting in which painting and found objects merge into a poetic visual world. A multi-layered cloudscape emerges on a hardboard surface, from which a face forms – as if born of light and air. Real objects are integrated into the surface: a pair of glasses, feathers from the shores of Lake Chiemsee, and other elements that lend the work a tactile, three-dimensional presence.
The color scheme is dominated… by numerous shades of blue, complemented by carefully placed golden accents that lend the image a special luminosity and spiritual depth. Painterly gestures, collage, and materiality enter into a dialogue between sky, memory, and perception. A wooden strip at the top serves as a hanging device and is intentionally integrated into the overall composition.
Stephanie Balih is an academic painter and singer-songwriter who works with acrylics, oils, and gold leaf on canvas. She combines figurative-expressive techniques with her signature blue, plays with wateriness, impasto, and unusual formats, and often incorporates lettering in real gold. In her works, she interweaves the sea, humanity, and nature to convey freshness, lightness, and inner strength, and to remind viewers of their purpose.
