Urban structures form an impressive backdrop. She stands proudly in the skyline of Singapore. In the deepest blue of the night, with brightly lit windows that sparkle like stars that transform houses into light sculptures. At night, they dominate even more than the day their environment. Glass and concrete stretch like rocks towards the sky. At the sight of her, everything else around her seems small and insignificant. Like an army of like-minded…
people they stand there and look almost menacing. This depth of blue is magical - only in the dark does it start to shine. You can not paint that way, not from the tube. Ultramarine as a pigment, but which background? If you look closely you can recognize it. Even El Greco knew about this secret. Like no other, he made the blue shine.

The German artist Uwe Beyer, born in 1959, lives in Coswig, near Dresden, and in Düsseldorf. He studied at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle (1988–1993). Uwe Beyer's paintings emerge more from mindfulness than from control. The material is allowed to move, resist, and settle. Form is not imposed but develops organically—stabilizing briefly before dissolving back into openness. Each work exists in a tension between presence and withdrawal, density and emptiness. It exists as a self-contained object while simultaneously eluding complete visibility. Instead of composing images, his practice creates the conditions for their emergence. These paintings do not represent the world.
