About this artwork
The various yellow paint layers applied using a special spatula technique give the 70 cm x 100 cm picture a rich, warm texture. This bright background really brings out the strong red color fields. The few black fields applied in a controlled manner are intended to further enhance the contrast. For me, this picture from the "Magical Mystery" collection is a homage to the Beatles song of the same name. The edges are painted and the work is ready to… hang.
Tom Schmid is a highly versatile artist. He has exhibited his work nationally as well as in Italy. Many of his paintings, created during his time in Italy, reflect the colors and light of the South. His works emerge through layering textures, omission, and reduction. This involves both controlled work and allowing spontaneity. His paintings aim to convey tension, depth, and authenticity; each brushstroke seeks to tell a story and encourage interpretation. Emotions, passion, and experience are palpable in every one of his paintings. He wants to open an emotional window with his art and convey the essence of painting to the viewer.
