Alice Kauer’s practice developed from her architectural background and more than a decade of working with drawing, proportion, and composition. This foundation shaped a precise approach to abstraction, with balance at the core of her work.
Her paintings examine the relationship between stability and movement. Natural structures provide an important reference — complex systems that remain balanced while constantly responding to change. These principles inform compositions built through proportion, texture, spatial tension, and controlled gesture rather than direct representations of nature.
The works are deliberately restrained. Each element has a clear role within the composition, while the space carries equal importance. Minimal forms and carefully considered relationships create a sense of tension and movement without disrupting the overall equilibrium of the work.
