« Painting is an act of liberation and I allow the process to ultimately create the meaning behind my work. »
Marlene Lowden is an artist based in Canada whose paintings have been featured in several solo and group exhibitions nationally. She cites women's history, the women of the Abstract Expressionist movement in the 1940s, and the rise of the feminist art movement of the 1960s, as having been influential on her signature mark-making style. Lowden's gestural artistic expression conveys energy and emotion, linking to beauty to chaos, and the "wildly female qualities of nature".
