About this artwork
"Tragabuches" was a bullfighter, smuggler and bandit, who took the alternative in 1802 in Salamanca. Shortly afterwards, once settled in Ronda, he abandoned his bullfighting activity and began to act as a smuggler, along with a dancer known as La Negra, with whom he lived. One day he discovered that she was unfaithful with a sacristan named José. "Tragabuches" cut his throat and threw La Negra off the balcony, also causing her death. After that he… fled to the Ronda mountains to become a bandit with the creation of the famous group "The 7 Children of Écija". There he was lost and was never heard from again.
Ángel Alcalde, born from impressionism-expressionism, captures his Castilian heritage and Madrid passion in every brushstroke. Steeped in classical techniques under the tutelage of Antonio López, his style envelops rurality and bullfighting with a deeply emotional palette. His works are a whirlwind of emotions, where land and tradition dance to the sound of the bubbling canvas.
