About this artwork
This work (acrylic on beech wood) is an abstraction of a perception of life, a perception of reality, at that moment in time. I love distilling things to their essence. I chose to make this painting on wood, an earthy material, and earth is our everyday reality. The painting are actually two paintings. They each represent a different movement in Life. It is painted as if we look through windows, as our perception is limited and we can never see the… whole picture. Sometimes we start from a clear, enlightened state, go through a here-and-now state, and travel into a darker state. Sometimes, we start from a darker state and transition into a here-and-now state, and move towards a clear and enlightened state. The nature of life is such that it always brings challenges; Therefore, there is a cross going through each of the two paintings. I love the abstraction and the meditative aspect of this painting.
Agnes Boes, a Belgian artist based in Ireland, creates across painting, poetry, photography, and weaving, drawing from a rich self-taught background with formal training in Brussels and Cork. Her style weaves symbolism and surrealism in deeply personal yet universal narratives, employing a contemplative process that balances intuition and careful observation. Her works invite viewers into the landscapes of her inner and outer world; exploring trauma, the here and now, and inner silence, encouraging each viewer to embark on their own intimate journey of discovery.. Agnes Boes is a member of VIA, Visual Artists Ireland.
