About this artwork
This collage was built from images taken during my recent trip to China. I wanted to portray a spiralling vortex centred on a luminous ball, in my mind merging East Asian calligraphy with the figurative sculptures I saw in the town where porcelain was manufactured in the past. I use layered textures and concentric motion to suggest the passage of time and the partially revealed figures and script to seal the cultural narrative. I hoped for a meditative…
