About this artwork
An old trunk is built to keep what matters shut away, and that is exactly how I read this body: curled up, folded into itself, stored. I wanted the nude treated as sculpture, one closed volume of warm skin set on cold iron-bound wood. Window light does the modeling; the faded palette keeps everything quiet, almost painted. She hides her face from us, and somehow that refusal is what makes it impossible to look away.
"Dormant Cargo" brings a low,… steady calm into a room, which makes it a natural fit for bedrooms, private studies, or any space built around quiet. It sits well with aged wood, linen, and plaster walls, and its closed horizontal composition lets it hold a wall on its own. Hung with room to breathe, it becomes the still point an interior gathers around.
