“Paris-Sportif” was captured during a walk through Montmartre, at the exact moment a young woman came bouncing down the street with a kind of effortless joy that briefly transformed the quiet surroundings around her. What drew me to the scene was the accidental choreography of it all: her movement appearing almost suspended in midair, the textured stone wall behind her, and the pigeon in the foreground continuing its day completely unimpressed by…
the spectacle unfolding beside it. The photograph exists somewhere between spontaneity and theater, where an ordinary Paris street suddenly becomes a stage for a fleeting moment that lasted no more than a second.

Alexander Benz is a photographer with over 25 years’ experience, trained at the International Center of Photography in New York and holding a Master’s in Art Curation and Art History from the University of Stockholm. He works primarily in black-and-white, embracing simplicity, composition, and an intuitive, observational approach that values natural light and spontaneous moments.
Benz’s images evoke a delicate tension, drawing viewers into intimate, in-between spaces, conveying a quiet, contemplative presence and inviting us to pause and engage with subtle truths hidden beneath everyday appearances.
