About this artwork
She stood against the wall, hands on hips, looking toward the door. Whoever she was waiting for was late, and her stillness had an edge to it, composed but restless. I asked if I could photograph her. Not because I'd planned to, but because something in the tension held my attention. A portrait caught sideways, between one moment and the next.

Alexander Benz is a photographer with over 25 years’ experience, trained at the International Center of Photography in New York and holding a Master’s in Art Curation and Art History from the University of Stockholm. He works primarily in black-and-white, embracing simplicity, composition, and an intuitive, observational approach that values natural light and spontaneous moments.
Benz’s images evoke a delicate tension, drawing viewers into intimate, in-between spaces, conveying a quiet, contemplative presence and inviting us to pause and engage with subtle truths hidden beneath everyday appearances.
