About this artwork
The picture shows a downpour in spring. The viewer is, as it were, directly in nature. The sky has darkened and the wind is lashing the rain through the flowering branches. In the background you can see the crystal shimmering sky, which was painted in many different shades of blue. Since the artist produces the paint herself, you can still see the particles of the pure pigments. Against this fresh, abstract background, twigs that have just blossomed…

The liquid paint is also applied to the edges of the 4.5 cm wide picture carrier and makes the painting appear three-dimensional. The branches, which are set very spontaneously, have a three-dimensional effect and make the scene seem close enough to touch. The loose brushstroke makes the painting appear abstract and very lively.

Alexandra Hiltl is a German painter and draftswoman whose works are widely exhibited worldwide. Her art moves between abstraction and figuration and is not specifically concerned with botanical or physiological accuracy, but rather with the "atmosphere of the moment". The beauty of living things touches her deeply, and Hiltl compositions reflect an emotional imagery. Working primarily in watercolor technique, her artistic practice requires extreme concentration as she allows the color to flow along with concentrated shaping.
