About this artwork
Every year I am amazed by the beauty of the magnolia blossom. In this work I have tried to capture the aesthetics, dynamism and elegance of this short flowering period. The grace, opulence and enormous power of the flowers on the sometimes delicate, sometimes strong branches are shown in this painting. A magnolia grows against an abstract background. The heavy flowers fall into the picture framed by foliage. Cream, yellow and pink tones combined…
with green and brown tones create a fresh atmosphere. The color was used freely and dynamically, resulting in beautiful color gradients. The watercolor lightness of the flowers is complemented by concentrated areas of oil paint. Neon accents that appear when the light hits them complement the painting. The sophisticated layering of charcoal drawing, acrylic paint and oil pastel creates a picture space that has great depth despite its brightness. This work brings the positive mood of spring into your rooms.

Alexandra Hiltl is a German painter and draftswoman whose works are widely exhibited worldwide. Her art moves between abstraction and figuration and is not specifically concerned with botanical or physiological accuracy, but rather with the "atmosphere of the moment". The beauty of living things touches her deeply, and Hiltl compositions reflect an emotional imagery. Working primarily in watercolor technique, her artistic practice requires extreme concentration as she allows the color to flow along with concentrated shaping.
