About this artwork
First, the outer contour and thus the seat of the dog's head in the leaf was determined with charcoal. Then run the shadow zones. The heights were set with white acrylic paint. This results in countless shades of gray that contribute to the dynamic of the expression. Finally, the contours were refined with pink oil pastel chalk and the expression was brought to the point.
The head of a small lap dog is shown. It looks directly at the viewer with… its large eyes. A person sees an animal, an animal sees a person. In reality, the proportions and thus the power relationships are clearly specified. There is no danger from a lap dog. The relations change due to the enlarged representation. The dog becomes a person to be taken seriously.
The drawing does not completely fill the sheet so that it can be framed with a mat. The edge provided for this is approx. 0.8 cm wide.

Alexandra Weidmann is an artist based in Germany whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Denmark, the United States, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey, and Belgium. Fascinated by colors and the creation of the illusion of movement, her works explore the fundamental questions of being human. In addition, Weidmann portrays areas of tension between confrontation and cooperation.
