About this artwork
The artist plays with the different reflections between the glossy oil paint and the matte-metallic background, bringing focus on the process of florescence. An acute golden sunlight illuminates the background where these red flowers bloom. The enlargement of the flowers growing towards the sun is made perceivable through the brushstrokes stretching upwards.
The spring paintings are part of an art project in which the artist, during the two equinoxes… of the year, puts herself into an oneiric state through meditative and breathing techniques in order to produce the
paintings.
The stretch relationship of the series with space & astrology is also suggested by the starry sky insinuated in the background.
« I looked for a window into my dreams, where pieces of life were transformed into a jungle that I had never seen. In the eyes of every flower and beast, I recognized myself. »
Alexia López Sosa is a prize-winning Mexican artist whose works have been widely exhibited nationally, as well as in France and Argentina. Three images are constants in the painter, printmaker, and sculptor's compositions, and include the mountain, the chair, and the wild herb. Sosa explores dreams and nature, and transformation through time. When she works, she tears her heart onto the canvas, draining her memories, dreams, and landscapes. She describes her art as a coded transcription of who she is.
