About this artwork
What does it mean to rest in today’s modern life, the hurry of the everyday and pressure to sustain our lives? What do we intentionally say ‘yes’ to and ‘no’ to? How do we stay connected to peace and joy? In this series “Rest”, I simply explore moments of…rest. Scenes from garden hedges, daily walks, inspiration from North London flora and fauna. Created in peaceful, intentional rest, drawing on my faith as a compass to guide me.
In celebrating… the shapes of the seasons, we learn that nature always has inbuilt moments of ‘rest’. Celebrating winter, we appreciate spring. Summer crops, lead to Autumn joy. The shapes and implicit memories of each season propel our own bodies into sleep or energy…
Using a celebration of textural body and a zingy, intense and fresh palette, my marks are expressive and interpretive and have a dreamy feel to them, which for me, gives me a deep sense of fulfilment and joy. This piece celebrates some spring trees bursting into leaf, marking Spring.
