A city remembers itself!
"Recursive city" explores London not a fixed skyline, but as a layered memory. In the center, there is the city as we see it – colorful, detailed, concrete: the Thames, Big Ben, the London Eye. Around it, the same city dissolves.
I use the principle of the fractal – a pattern that repeats itself at different scales – to talk about we experience place.
The outer frames are rendered in ultramarine blue, reduce to essential… silhouettes, to lines and shadows. The Shard, the Gherkin, the bridges – they become signs.
The large grey sun watches over this deconstruction, a constant in a city that is constantly rewriting itself.
In my "Fractals" series, I am interested in this infinite loop between the real and the represented, between the city that exists and the city we internalize.
The painting is both the map and the territory, both the picture and the frame.
