About this artwork
From an art-historical perspective, this mixed media artwork “Transitional Field” can be understood as a contemporary mythological and feminist reinterpretation of the Europa and Jupiter narrative, employing symbolic and visionary imagery to explore autonomy, love, fertility, and cultural transformation. Rather than rejecting the ancient classical myth, Alura reclaims and reshapes it through contemporary values such as self-determination, reciprocity,…
It explores themes of deception, consent, and equality, celebrating modern heroes who fought for equal rights. It also has a reference to the Dutch colonial roots. The piece is currently on exhibition in Nijmegen till October 3rd 2026.
All works in the series Spiral Thresholds will become available in the future, but will have to remain available for a large duo exhibition in Fall of 2027. The development of this exhibition will be shown in a studio exhibition in September 2026.

Alura works primarily in painting and textiles, informed by early training from her family and formal study at ArtEz University of the Arts in the Netherlands. She employs a technique of slow, meticulous construction on large-scale canvases, layering surfaces to create unique, unrepeatable works that are physical records of time and process. Drawing on metamorphosis, geometric systems, and the spiral as organizing logic, her art evokes the tension between vulnerability and strength, transformation and order, inviting viewers into a contemplative emotional space.
