About this artwork
In my 30" x 40" acrylic mixed media piece, Mother Owl's Forest, I wanted to capture the chaotic beauty and essence of nature. This painting is deeply personal: it is an ode to my late mother, whose spirit animal was an owl. Eschewing traditional paintbrushes, I used my fingers and hands to sculpt the artwork directly on the canvas, bringing a raw, tactile dimension to her memory.
The piece is divided into three vertical sections. On the left, lush… greens and spirals celebrate renewal. In the central section, a mosaic of blue and yellow hues intertwines; here, my fingerwork reveals an abstract owl perched on a branch beneath a swirling sky, watching over the forest. On the right, a palette of pinks, reds, and greens forms a garden of abstract blossoms, balancing the composition.
Mother Owl's Forest is my invitation to contemplate the interconnectedness of life, serving as both a bold declaration of my evolving vision and a heartfelt tribute to my mother's enduring spirit.
