About this artwork
In this painting, something shifted. I began to combine images from the photographs with the living presence of the flowers and leaves from my own garden. I brought them to the studio, freshly cut, still damp, vibrating. In their stillness, there was something unsettling: they began to change, to wither as time passed, to transform before my eyes.
The natural change of the forms that left their habitat and their subsequent transformation became… part of the process in the painting itself. The color began to creep, as if trying to retain what was escaping. The forms no longer held together; they blurred, overlapping, like fading echoes.
Painting like this opened me up to a different way of seeing: more intimate, rawer, more connected to what is passing. Nature set the pace for me, leading me to let go of control. And in that surrender, painting took on a new presence, more emotional, more connected to the present.
Ana Abregu is an Argentine visual artist trained in drawing, painting, and printmaking. She explores painting, printmaking, ceramics, light installations, and animated projections. Her technique combines geometric patterns, textures, and organic gestures, while integrating reclaimed materials and natural elements in a dialogue between the material and the conceptual. Her works convey contemplation, refuge, and an invitation to pause and care for the fragile, transforming the image into a sensitive space that allows us to reconnect with the essential amidst contemporary noise.
