About this artwork
In this work I explore geological texture, erosion and the transformation of matter through time. I build the surface through many layers of gypsum, marble paste and mineral pigments, creating a dense sculptural texture and a tactile mineral surface. I apply washed colour layers and translucent pigment glazes so the material develops depth, patina and natural variation similar to weathered stone and cracked rock. The central fracture emerges from… the layered structure of the material itself, suggesting a tectonic rupture within the surface. My work focuses on textured abstract painting, material abstraction and contemporary mineral surfaces shaped by pressure, time and erosion. Mixed media on canvas: gypsum, marble paste, mineral pigments. Size: 100 x 70 x 3.8 cm.
Ana Köpe is a painter and visual artist from Transylvania, now based in Austria, whose mixed media works are shaped by her engineering background and fascination with structure, balance, and transformation. She employs layered techniques with marble powder, binders, natural and metallic pigments, encouraging surfaces to crack and erode organically. Her tactile material landscapes evoke the enduring emotions found in memory and presence, offering both wounds and healing, inviting viewers to contemplate traces and silent echoes left behind by time.
