About this artwork
This painting belongs to the artist's ongoing series Landscapes in Motion. The series is inspired by the fast pace of life today. Ana Markovic is exploring this through painting and photographic experiments. For this she uses landscapes, trying to find connections between landscapes of old masters and how it would look like nowadays. She finds the contemporary landscape very far removed from Arcadian landscapes of the past and more closely connected… to city life and photography. It is also a suitable place to start investigating the relation that modern men have with nature, to which extent we are drawn apart from it today and how does it relate to alienation and the ever-growing pace of life.
« Most of my inspiration, or what drives me, comes from the work itself. »
Ana Markovic is an award-winning painter from Serbia who has exhibited nationally and internationally.
In recent years, her work has revolved around nature, whether it's landscapes on fire, regular landscapes, or botanical ones. Ana believes that nature should be in focus because it heals us, has the power of revival, and brings much-needed serenity to our busy lives. Also, with global warming's growing presence, nature becomes a burning topic (pun intended) to shed light on all the beauty we are in danger of losing. That is why nature, in all its glory, is the main actor in all the stories here.
She works in various media, from watercolor to oils. However, her newest pieces feature mixed media on canvas with oil paint in the lead role. While the initial layers present fine play between acrylic paint and charcoal drawing, oil comes later to tie it all together, giving it transparency and depth.
