About this artwork
Painting Into the Blur depicts a lady riding a bicycle. It is inspired by a photo I took on my trip to Padua one evening. I found myself captivated by bicycles rushing through the narrow streets of this old and romantic town. Here I tried to convey a little bit of that atmosphere into my work.
The painting belongs to my ongoing series Landscapes in Motion which deals with urban landscapes caught in the moments in motion that emphasize today's hectic… and hurried life. I often reflect on the arcadian landscapes of the past and realize that their modern counterparts are exactly these busy, blurry cityscapes in contrast to once idyllic green pastures.
I used oil on canvas which I always use for this series because it allows me to work with translucent layers and blur the surfaces, all of which I believe add to the depth of the painting.
