About this artwork
With "The Past Returns," Andrea Benetti composes a visual symphony in which ancestral memories and contemporary dynamics blend in a sculptural and chromatic balance. The surface, punctuated by sinuous lines and geometric shapes with clear edges, evokes mental maps, symbolic itineraries where the eye is lost and found. Stylized hearts, tribal symbols, and biomorphic elements intertwine between acrylic glazes and dense oils, creating a narrative fabric… that speaks of belonging and identity. The color fields, sometimes subtle, sometimes vibrant, alternate on a gesso ground that lends texture and depth to the composition. It is a work in which the artistic gesture becomes an archaeological act, capable of unearthing symbolic structures that inhabit the collective unconscious. Andrea Benetti, with his refined coherence, invites the viewer to recognize themselves in the forms of time, restoring a voice from the past in the present.
« The painting of the future was born in caves, since art has always been the most fascinating medium with which matter depicts the spirit. »
