About this artwork
In Laguna di Venezia, Andrea Benetti creates a symbolic and interior vision of the lagoon city, far removed from iconographic clichés and instead close to an archaic narrative, evoked through a refined bas-relief of oil, coffee, and oxides. Geometric and anthropomorphic forms intertwine like islands, gondolas, currents, and landing places, constructing an abstract and primitive map. The warm colors of coffee interact with the delicate shades of blue… and ochre, conveying the atmospheric vibration of the lagoon, suspended between water and sky. The bold black lines, a recurring stylistic signature of the artist, trace connections and paths, as if they were channels of memory. Venice is not depicted, it is evoked: it emerges like a sedimented memory, like a liquid myth surfacing from a shared culture. The work thus becomes a reflection on fragile beauty and on time, which, even as it passes, leaves profound visual traces, to be interpreted with a renewed gaze.
« The painting of the future was born in caves, since art has always been the most fascinating medium with which matter depicts the spirit. »
