About this artwork
I like to study and draw the structure of the skull, I get lost in its surfaces and lines.
This composition immediately seemed particularly fascinating to me, a tale of a civilization far from unknown rituals but deeply linked to the earth and nature. It has a charm that I could not resist, I felt that it was transmitting to me energies that I absolutely had to fix on a sheet.
This drawing is made like many of my drawings on paper recovered from… a typography. It is a very beautiful card to draw from, rich in history, a past, a time. The back may contain textbooks, cartoon drawings, and ink and press oil stains. I like to use this kind of support, I feel that his past somehow adds something to what I do.

Andrea Berni is an Italian sculptor whose works have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally, in Lithuania, France, and Norway. He is fascinated by the factors that motivate human behavior as well as our relationships with society and nature. Berni describes his expressive figurative compositions as being linked to a "free interpretation and idealization of nature". Creating in series, his pieces are made of marble, terracotta, and clay.
