About this artwork
One day when I was at the central market, I saw this stand with these huge strands of lemons hanging from above. It made me want to paint them so I asked if I could buy a whole strand. The lady looked at me as if I were crazy but she sold me one. I took it home, took a painting off the wall, hung the strand of lemons in its place and began to paint it. My wife also looked at me as if I were crazy. What I like about it is how up close, the lemons…
appear to be just a bunch of splotches with not much detail, but at a distance, they read very realistically.
