About this artwork
This is what I describe as a found still life, by that I mean nothing was set up. I composed this by sitting on the sofa behind the coffee table and moved my vantage point to achieve a composition that I found interesting. I was attracted to the reflection of the awning in the glass table and to all the abstract shapes the reflection and objects created. I first did a study in charcoal and then did the oil painting from the drawing as painting direct…
from the sofa wasn't feasible. Even though this is a very realistic painting, on another level, it is quite abstract. You could say that I used abstraction to paint realism, or that I used realism to paint abstract, depending on how you look at it.

Credentials
- Works on commission
Andrew Weber, an accomplished oil and soft pastel painter with a BFA from the University of Arizona, is devoted to perceptual painting after years in publishing. His technique fuses impressionistic realism with abstraction, often balancing hard and soft edges and playing with light, form, and harmonies of color. He seeks subtle beauty in everyday subjects, using masterfully varied mark-making and color vibration to create images that are tranquil, contemplative, and suffused with a quiet, luminous peace.
