About this artwork
This work of art, which was created in 2003 on the theme of "farewell", impresses with its multi-layered design. A large support plate was worked with acrylic and oil paints and then covered with a delicate layer of wax. Texts in mirror writing were incorporated into the acrylic layer, the content of which is difficult to decipher, which gives the work a mysterious depth. The color palette ranges from light cream white to waxy tones and is reminiscent… of a rediscovered historical wall surface whose messages have yet to be deciphered. The wax coating gives the work of art a luxurious, velvety finish.
A counterpart to this work, see example image, which is in black color but otherwise has the same size and design, can also be requested and purchased.
« I seek to unleash unrelieved feelings and open them to a salutary contemplation. »
Annette Becker is an established German sculptor, painter and photographer whose works have widely featured in exhibitions and publications across the country. In her work, she deals with feelings such as closeness and vulnerability, as well as general interpersonal relationships. Her sculptures serve to capture the unconscious, and she often uses text and mirrored images to destable the viewer and encourage contemplation. Becker's preferred material is wax, for she views it as the perfect means and message of protection.
