About this artwork
The painting denounces the indifference of modern society in the face of global tragedies.
A relaxed viewer eats a hamburger and watches a news broadcast about the war, holding a remote control with his thumb on the mute button, a symbol of the apathy of those who observe tragic events from a privileged vantage point. The war becomes a distant spectacle, devoid of real impact.…
The bullet-splattered fries and blood-like ketchup create a visual short circuit, representing the connection between consumerism and war, transforming food into a metaphor for unconscious participation in global violence. The viewer doesn't simply watch, but "ingests" the war, recalling the way some Western economies benefit from conflicts elsewhere.
The painting invites us to reflect on our distance from tragedies and our role in a system that normalizes war.
