About this artwork
Kamoshika merges fluid ink processes with sculptural passages of acrylic and oil. The composition originates from the artist’s signature ink flow—developed outdoors in Hawai‘i, exposed to salt air, humidity, and shifting wind—then intentionally shaped and interrupted by fields of soft pink oil paint. This tension between organic movement and controlled intervention creates a dynamic topography where form emerges and recedes.
Subtly embedded within… the abstraction is the presence of the Japanese mountain goat, referencing a personal encounter in Japan. The figure is not depicted literally but sensed through layered textures, mineral-like veining, and gestural contours—suggesting resilience, stillness, and attunement to rugged environments.

By utilizing process-driven and meditative techniques inspired by biomorphic surrealism. Asian philosophy and the islands nature she constructs dense microstructures that dissolve into expansive compositions, exploring “in-between spaces” that invite viewers to reflect on identity and perception.
