About this artwork
This little piece was a journey in experimentation of watercolour combined with metallic gold.
I did not really have a vision when I started with a blank piece of paper - the dread of all artists - letting the watercolour go its own way with a little help from me. I liked the way the red paint took shape but it needed brightening up so out came the metallic gold. Dropping the paint on the paper was a moment that I thought 'this is either going to… work or be a big mistake'. The painting came alive!
