About this artwork
I painted this gorilla during the Covid period which was such a traumatic and sad time for many people. What about the animals though? Had they suffered unbeknown to humanity? Thinking about this, of which we all had a lot of thinking time, I decided to paint a piece of art on the very subject.
The gorilla was a piece that became it's own! Using watercolour as a base with seaweed as a painting tool (which certainly was a first for me) to represent… the pelt I then added ink and charcoal to get more definition with the strands of hair. My last touch was to add some gold leaf on his chin to reflect sunlight and to pose the question....would he be more valuable and be saved?
