About this artwork
The work is held in subtle shades of blue and blue-gray, which are reminiscent of the landscapes and fjords of Iceland. Cool, clear colors are combined with an interesting surface texture that makes the white surfaces appear lively. The eye can wander through the picture without getting tired of seeing.
They often remind us of a certain feeling: places with a very special flair, which we will remember for a long time, which sometimes stand for… a season or phase of life: where did you spend the summers of your childhood? Which special travel destination are you longing for?
« There is so much in life that we cannot control, but we can use our creativity to make something really interesting out of the chaos! »
Anja Stemmer is an emerging contemporary artist living in Germany. Influenced by expressionists such as Hans Hartung and Pierre Soulages, she uses strong colours and gestural elements, which she skilfully combines with the expressive possibilities of fluid colours. Her works balance spontaneous expression with the intention to convey courage, confidence and a sense of departure. She is passionate about experimenting with binders, pigments and substrates to further enhance these qualities.
