About this artwork
Through her depictions of flowers, Ann wishes to call attention to the importance of appreciating and caring for our natural world. Embrace is an observational study in which Ann has reflected on this striking beauty she found in nature. In this square, framed oil painting, she uses various shades of pinks and purples to capture the light and shadows of the flower and the soft curves of its petals that wrap around its centre like an embrace. Like… the rose itself, the entire canvas comes to life, blooming in vibrant colour, engaging the senses of the viewer as they are transported to the smooth surface of the petals, their sweet scent, the sounds of insects buzzing nearby.
« My life is like a mosaic, composed of little fragments of memories, traditions and family histories. Yet despite all this, my heart sings in a quiet whisper. »
Ann Bubis, a painter and sculptor from the United Kingdom, has exhibited in Germany, Czechia, the United States and the U.K. As an intuitive artist, her abstract and realistic pieces are a response to global issues concerning the environment and ‘throw-away society’, as well as ancestral history, to name a few. Bubis works comprise varying styles and media, with her current focus on framed mosaics and sculptures which she calls ‘juxtapositions’.
