About this artwork
I paint the mountains because they have gravity. Sharing the story of this work helps you enter my world and connect emotionally with the painting. "The Awakening of the Styrian Mountain Spirit" is about the moment light finally breaks over a high ridge. I wanted to capture that sudden rush of heat and color against the cold stone.
Working with heavy acrylic allows me to build the terrain physically. I lay down the violet and emerald greens with… thick strokes, mimicking the rough surface of the earth. The sky is a solid shape of cadmium orange, holding a pale, textured sphere. It is a memory of early mornings in Styria, where the air feels thin and the colors are sharp. I want this painting to bring a sense of open, vast space into a living room or a quiet entryway. Please, step close and look at the way the paint catches the light.
