About this artwork
The North Sea, formed after glacial melting 20 000 years ago.
This current series of paintings is inspired by aerial views, satellite imagery, and the cosmos. Featuring abstract, textural canvases, the paintings depict imagined spaces inspired by real life imagery. While Anne tends to favour a limited palette, the colours of the paintings in the Aerial Inspired series happen to be of a higher contrast within a limited palette in each painting.
Because… the environment has been her focus, Anne's thought has been to ask how aerial views change over time. Her assumption is the effects of climate change would be most visible in looking at coastlines over time. It is her hope to revisit this series in several years, with new imagery & data that may show the ravages of time.
This piece is done in shades of navy blue, & metallic gold, making for a dynamic painting that appears differently depending on the time of day, on how the light hits it, or where the viewer is standing.
« I think art is a way in. It is an equalizer, no matter where you come from, or what language you speak. Now, more than ever, we must recognize that inter-connectedness. »
Anne Cherubim is an artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in several solo and group exhibitions nationally. Her works explore themes relating to the environment and stewardship of the planet. However, Cherubim is also fascinated by the essence of a place, rather than a perfect rendering. She favors bold acrylic colors in her creative process.
