About this artwork
This painting was inspired by a visit to the historical convict colony in Port Arthur in Tasmania, Australia. Anne was surprised that the extremely harsh conditions of the convicts contrasted with the pleasantness of the surrounding gardens and homely dwellings. Anne used palette knife and brushes to create texture in the leaves and petals of the flowers as she was aiming for an overall sensual result. She tried to replicate the light which is visible…
