About this artwork
I create photographic tessellations—patterns built not from geometry, but from real-world images, in this case, lichen on a rock face in New Mexico. Cactus, a sidewalk, or a seashell might become the seed of a repeating structure. These aren’t digital tricks or illusions; they’re careful arrangements that explore how form and rhythm emerge from everyday visual material. I don’t start with a message or story. I’m more interested in what happens when…
I let the process lead—when structure unfolds through repetition, reflection, and variation. The result isn’t meant to be decoded, but experienced. You might feel a sense of order, motion, or calm. Or maybe it just draws your eye. That’s enough.
