About this artwork
Historic villa from 1852 located in Chiavari on the Ligurian coast. At the time I painted this, it was abandoned, imagining it outside its urban context, as if immersed in the forest, guarded by two presences: a wolf and a salamander. General Giuseppe Garibaldi, the hero of two worlds, also lived there.
Antonio Ortolani, trained at NABA in Milan, expresses himself through oil painting with symbolist and surrealist influences. He develops an intriguing contrast between industrial architectural realism and nature, adding ancient fabrics and beeswax for a unique texture. With strong reference to poetic and philosophical texts, his works evoke the emotions of an almost forgotten era, exploring the duality between humility and pride.
