About this artwork
It is the artist’s belief that the world is a union of interwoven life, where every creature, from microbes to plants and trees, insects to animals, plays a part in preserving Earth. It's time for us to realize that in the spiritual realm, we are one. In the material world, our misguided sense of superiority and entitlement has led to unprecedented climate changes. To quote Srijana Mitra Das, Times Evoke editor who’s put it so beautifully - ‘ We… are creatures irrefutably of science and stardust and perhaps feeling that sense of awe again could help us overcome the temptations of more tin and plastic.’
This is the third painting from the artist’s four-part series created for the XIV Florence Biennale 2023, The theme for this year, “I AM YOU,” delves into both individual and collective identities in contemporary Art and Design. Done in shades of yellow and green, with leaf motifs all over, this self portrait is the artist’s reflection of herself, being one with nature.
« Art transforms the mundane to the extraordinary. »
