About this artwork
Spirit and Flight is a photographic series by Diamond that explores perception, memory, and urban experience through a deeply personal lens. Shot in London, Istanbul, and Milan, the work is influenced by Orhan Pamuk’s The Museum of Innocence and its poetic approach to memory and narrative. Central to the series is Diamond’s lifelong visual condition, which distorts his perception of the world. Rather than treating this as a limitation, he embraces…
it as a way of seeing—his truth. Fragmented montages and triptychs mirror the sensory disorientation of city life, transforming familiar environments into surreal, emotionally resonant spaces. Diamond’s “photozographia” process captures the tension between fragmentation and flow, alienation and intimacy. Through this fractured visual language, Spirit and Flight reimagines impairment as a generative force, turning personal trauma into revelation. Apartment HD is a collaboration between the artists Natasha Lara Hughes and James Dean Diamond. Together they have produced the body of work titled 200 Years 1000 Stories.
