About this artwork
Upon moving to Miami Beach I settled into the vibrant Art Deco neighborhood of South Beach, which was just in the midst of major gentrification changes with young people increasingly moving to this “Lower East Side of New York by the Sea.” Many older buildings were being "updated" by a new coat of paint as was the one pictured. This particular composition of newly painted surfaces with the blue sky seemed to be the perfect statement for what… was happening in the neighborhood.
This artwork presents a striking interplay of geometric forms and vibrant colors, where the soft textures of the yellow and green walls contrast beautifully against the deep blue sky. The clean lines and angular shapes evoke a sense of simplicity, inviting contemplation of space and structure.
Arthur Marcus is a photographer and architect whose work draws deeply from decades of architectural practice and immersive urban photography. He utilizes abstract framing, modernist influences, and masterful play of light and shadow to distill architecture and cityscapes into poetic, contemplative compositions. His photography technique emphasizes fragmenting the built environment, revealing hidden rhythms and a quiet, kinetic energy in everyday moments. Through his lens, Marcus conveys nostalgia, reflection and the complexity of modern urban life—inviting viewers to pause and discover the transformative beauty in ordinary scenes.
